What Are All Season Tyres?
All-season tyres combine features of summer and winter tyres in one design. Their tread patterns and rubber compounds are developed to balance performance across warmer weather, wet roads and colder conditions, with suitable models also offering tested snow capability.
For everyday driving across the Black Country and West Midlands, they can be a practical choice for motorists who prefer one set of tyres throughout the year rather than switching between summer and winter sets.
One Set, All Year
Use the same tyres through the seasons, avoiding the routine changeover and storage of a separate summer or winter set.
A Balance of Performance
All-season designs aim to balance wet, dry and cold-weather performance. The best choice depends on the model, your vehicle and how you drive.
Look for the Snow Marking
The three-peak mountain snowflake symbol (3PMSF) identifies tyres that meet a standardised snow-performance requirement. It is not a guarantee of grip on ice.
A versatile option, not a tyre without compromises. Dedicated summer or winter tyres may be better suited to demanding conditions. Our LTC teams can help you choose the correct size, load rating and speed rating for your vehicle.
Are All Season Tyres Right for You?
If your driving includes commuting, school runs and weekend trips, all-season tyres could be a convenient year-round option. The right choice depends on your mileage, the conditions you encounter and the performance you expect.
Whether you are travelling from Kingswinford to Stourbridge, shopping at Merry Hill in Brierley Hill or visiting the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, choosing tyres suited to your everyday journeys matters more than choosing on price alone.
Everyday Cars & Family SUVs
Looking for all-season tyres for a Ford Fiesta or Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage? We can check suitable options for your exact model, wheel size and driving needs.
Working Vans & Local Deliveries
For Ford Transit and Transit Custom, Renault Trafic and Volkswagen Transporter owners working around Lye, Cradley Heath and Halesowen, we can help identify suitable van tyres with the correct load capacity.
Convenience Through the Seasons
If you would rather avoid storing a second set of tyres and booking seasonal changeovers, all-season tyres offer a practical alternative. Compare each model's performance with your own priorities.
When might another tyre type be better? Dedicated summer tyres may suit drivers prioritising warm-weather performance, while dedicated winter tyres may be preferable for frequent severe winter conditions. Availability varies by vehicle and size; we will check the required load and speed ratings, including any commercial-vehicle or run-flat requirements.
Summer vs All Season vs Winter Tyres
What is the difference between summer, winter and all-season tyres? Each type has different priorities. This guide helps you compare year-round convenience with tyres designed for more specific seasonal conditions.
| Driving needs | Summer tyres | All season tyres | Winter tyres |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warmer weather | Designed primarily for warm-weather driving. | Balance summer use with winter capability. | Cold-weather focus rather than summer performance. |
| Wet roads | Compare the exact model, tyre-label wet-grip rating and relevant tests. Tyre type alone does not determine wet-weather performance. | ||
| Snow & colder conditions | Not designed for snow use. | Choose a 3PMSF-marked model for tested snow capability. | Designed for winter use; may be preferable in severe winter conditions. |
| Seasonal changeovers | Change to winter tyres if your conditions require them. | One set throughout the year where suitable. | Usually paired with a separate summer set. |
| Main priority | Warm-weather performance. | Year-round versatility and convenience. | Dedicated winter capability. |
On smaller screens, swipe the table sideways. This is a general comparison, not a ranking of individual tyres.
What Does 3PMSF Mean?
The three-peak mountain snowflake marking confirms that a tyre meets a standardised snow-performance requirement. It appears on qualifying winter and all-season tyres, but does not guarantee grip on ice or in every winter situation.
Is M+S the Same Thing?
No. M+S means Mud and Snow, but the marking alone does not demonstrate that a tyre has passed the 3PMSF snow-performance test. Check the exact model and sidewall markings when choosing tyres for winter driving.

This section features eight selected tyres from a ten-tyre independent test. Original finishing positions are retained; these are not owner star ratings. Results can vary by tyre size, vehicle and conditions. A tyre's overall position does not tell the whole story for your driving needs.
Compare Wet, Dry & Snow Braking Results
The table shows measured braking distances in metres. Lower is better within each column. Wet, dry and snow tests used different speeds, so compare tyres down a column rather than comparing one surface with another.
| Overall position | Tyre model | Wet 80–5 km/h |
Dry 100–5 km/h |
Snow 50–5 km/h |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Goodyear Vector All Season 4 | 31.94 m | 36.90 m | 27.16 m |

| 8 | Michelin CrossClimate 3 | 34.31 m | 37.40 m | 26.49 m |
Swipe sideways on a small screen. Distances measure deceleration to 5 km/h, not a complete stop, and exclude driver reaction distance. Figures apply to the tested size and conditions.
How to Choose the Best All Season Tyres for Your Driving
Start with the journeys you actually make. Tell us whether you mainly drive through town, commute on faster roads, make frequent motorway trips or need tyres for a working van. We can use that information alongside test results, tyre labels and your vehicle specification to discuss the options.
When comparing all-season tyre prices, check the exact model name, size, load index and speed rating. A brand can offer several all-season ranges, and different generations should not be treated as the same tyre. Michelin CrossClimate 3 and CrossClimate 3 Sport, for example, have separate entries above.
Understanding the Figures Before You Buy
A braking test answers one useful question: how far did that tyre travel while slowing down in the measured conditions? It does not answer every question about everyday ownership. Ask about handling, comfort, noise, expected usage and the price for your exact specification as well.
Use the overall position as a starting point for a shortlist. Then consider the results that matter to your driving. The shortest distance in one column does not automatically make that model the best choice for every car, van or driver.
All Season Tyre Advice Across the Black Country
Looking for all-season tyres in Stourbridge, Brierley Hill or Halesowen? Visit an LTC branch for help comparing suitable options. We also welcome enquiries from drivers in Dudley, Kingswinford, Cradley Heath, Oldbury and surrounding areas.
Whether your routine includes shopping at Merry Hill, commuting from Lye or taking the family to the Black Country Living Museum, tell us about your typical journeys. Drivers from Hagley and nearby areas can also ask about local branch fitting or mobile fitting by arrangement.
Car, SUV & Van Tyre Specifications
For a Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage, the model name alone is not enough to select tyres. Wheel sizes and specifications can vary. Bring your registration and current tyre details so our team can check suitable options.
The same applies to Ford Transit Custom, Renault Trafic and Volkswagen Transporter vans: ask us to check the required load capacity and tyre specification. This car-tyre test does not establish how a commercial van tyre will perform.

All Season Tyres — Frequently Asked Questions
Comparing all-season tyres for your car, van or caravan? Here are answers to common questions from customers at our Stourbridge, Brierley Hill and Halesowen branches.
What are all-season tyres?
All-season tyres combine summer and winter design features for year-round use. They offer a compromise between seasonal tyre types rather than being the best option in every condition. The right choice depends on your vehicle, journeys and the weather you encounter.
Can I use all-season tyres throughout the year?
Yes, suitable all-season tyres are designed for year-round use. Dedicated summer or winter tyres may be preferable for more demanding seasonal conditions. Tell our team about your driving so we can discuss suitable options.
What does the mountain snowflake symbol mean?
The three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, known as 3PMSF, means the tyre meets a standardised snow-performance requirement. M+S alone does not confirm it has passed that test. Neither marking is a guarantee of grip in every winter situation.
Which all-season tyre brand should I choose?
Compare the exact tyre model, specification and price, rather than choosing on brand name alone. Our team can help you weigh up suitable options for your budget and everyday journeys.
View our all-season tyre test comparison →Why are Maxxis and Nexen so popular at LTC?
Maxxis and Nexen are our most popular in-store all-season brands and big sellers with LTC customers. Their excellent prices and lifetime accidental-damage warranty are key reasons customers choose them. Ask us to compare prices for your exact size and explain the applicable warranty terms before buying.
What does the lifetime accidental-damage warranty cover?
Ask our team for the warranty terms applicable to the Maxxis or Nexen tyres you are buying. We will explain eligibility, covered damage, exclusions and the claims process. Do not assume every type of damage or tyre replacement is covered without checking the terms.
Do you supply all-season van and caravan tyres?
Yes. We stock Maxxis AL2 all-season commercial tyres, a very popular choice with our van and caravan customers. Send us your tyre details so we can check a suitable specification and availability for your particular van or caravan.
Explore van and caravan tyre options →Can you help with motorhome and campervan tyres?
Yes. Contact us with your vehicle details and tyre specification. We can check suitable options and fitting arrangements. A tyre shown on another motorhome is not automatically suitable for yours; we need to check your particular vehicle's requirements.
How do I find prices for my tyre size?
Use the tyre-size links on this page to compare all-season tyre prices. If you need help, send a clear sidewall photo and your vehicle details to our team. Check the load index and speed rating as well as the tyre dimensions before ordering.
Search all-season tyres by size →Can you fit all-season tyres at my home or workplace?
