Ken Scott's Audi A5 is a good example of more serious pothole damage. After hitting a pothole on Hurst Lane near Mad O'Rourke's Pie Factory, his tyre went flat immediately and the 20-inch alloy wheel was found to be both buckled and cracked.
Pothole damage is a frequent concern for drivers across Tipton and the wider Dudley borough. After a heavy impact, watch for an instant flat tyre, vibration, visible rim damage, steering pull or a change in how the car tracks. Damage can also be hidden on the inside of the alloy wheel.
Audi A5 Pothole Damage on Hurst Lane – Buckled Wheel, Cracked Alloy & Flat Tyre
Ken Scott's Audi A5 needed more than one repair after a pothole near Mad O'Rourke's Pie Factory in Tipton. The impact damaged the tyre, buckled the alloy wheel and cracked the rim.
Ken Scott – Audi A5
Ken hit a pothole on Hurst Lane, Tipton, close to Mad O'Rourke's Pie Factory. The tyre went flat immediately, leaving the Audi with a damaged 20-inch alloy wheel that was later found to be both buckled and cracked.
From Roadside in Tipton to Back on the Road
Because Ken's tyre was flat and the alloy had suffered substantial damage, the wheel needed to be removed and repaired at the workshop before the Audi could continue its journey.
Ken contacted our Brierley Hill branch after the pothole impact left his Audi A5 with an instantly flat tyre.
For this particular job, mobile wheel repair specialist Dan reached Ken on Hurst Lane within around 40 minutes and inspected the damage.
The wheel was removed and the Audi was left safely positioned while Dan transported the damaged wheel to LTC Brierley Hill.
The damaged tyre was removed, the wheel buckle was straightened and the crack was professionally repaired by alloy welding.
A new 255/35R20 97Y XL Maxxis VS01 tyre was fitted to the repaired alloy wheel before the assembly was balanced.
Dan returned the repaired wheel to Hurst Lane, refitted it to the Audi and Ken was back on the road within two hours of his first call.
For Ken's specific incident, mobile attendance, workshop repair, tyre fitting, balancing and return were completed within two hours.
Despite being both buckled and cracked, the alloy was suitable for straightening and professional welding.

Ken's Complete Tipton Job Cost
£265 Inc. VATKen returned to our Brierley Hill branch the following day for a free wheel alignment check. Front and rear adjustments were required to correct the geometry and help prevent the Audi from pulling to one side.
If the wheel is cracked, buckled or the tyre has failed, call our Brierley Hill team or send photos by WhatsApp. We can advise on mobile attendance, wheel collection, straightening, welding and replacement tyres.
When One Pothole Damages the Tyre, Alloy Wheel & Alignment
Not every pothole repair is simply a tyre replacement. A severe impact can destroy the tyre, buckle the alloy wheel, crack the rim and disturb the vehicle's wheel alignment in a single incident.
This is why LTC looks at the complete effect of the impact. For Tipton customers, our mobile team can assist with suitable roadside situations while specialist repairs such as wheel straightening and alloy welding are carried out at our Brierley Hill workshop.
A heavy impact can damage the tyre sidewall or internal structure, causing rapid or instant pressure loss.
The same impact can distort the rim and leave a flat spot that requires specialist straightening.
Severe force can also split the alloy. Suitable cracks may be professionally welded after inspection.
Suspension geometry can also be affected, leaving the vehicle pulling or tracking differently after the wheel repair.
After the Hurst Lane pothole impact, Ken's tyre went flat immediately. His 20-inch alloy was both buckled and cracked. Dan collected the wheel, the buckle was straightened, the crack welded, a new 255/35R20 97Y XL Maxxis VS01 tyre fitted and the wheel balanced. The following day, front and rear alignment adjustments were also required.
Inspect the tyre and visible wheel damage and decide whether the vehicle should remain stationary.
Suitable buckles and flat spots are corrected using specialist straightening equipment.
Repairable cracks are assessed and professionally alloy welded at the workshop.
A suitable tyre is fitted where replacement is needed and the complete wheel assembly is balanced.
Front and rear geometry can then be checked and adjusted where measurements show it is required.
Drivers around Tipton, Hurst Lane, Great Bridge, Princes End, Ocker Hill, Dudley Port and Tividale should be alert to changes after a hard road impact. Even if only one problem is immediately obvious, the wheel and vehicle geometry may also need checking.
Flat Tyre, Buckled Wheel and a Crack — What Happens Next?
Severe road impacts around Hurst Lane, Great Bridge, Princes End, Ocker Hill, Dudley Port and Tividale can leave drivers dealing with several different problems at once. The important question is not simply whether the tyre is flat, but what else the impact has damaged.
An immediate flat after a pothole can mean significant tyre damage rather than a slow puncture.
A hard enough impact can buckle the rim and crack the alloy during the same incident.
When a tyre is completely flat and the wheel is damaged, mobile wheel removal can avoid driving further on the affected corner.
Even after the wheel and tyre are repaired, the original impact may have altered front or rear alignment.
